Throughout the world there has been a marked increase in thetaking of recreational drugs. These drugs are not restricted to so-called ‘soft’ drugs like marijuana, but they also include very damaging ones like LSD and P. Given the current cost of enforcing drugs laws a debate about the legalization of recreational drugs is very timely. This essay aims to examine find the issue in four categories: health, economics (includeing supply and demand), the role of the individual and the state, and the decriminalization of drugs.

There is no doubt that drugs have damaging effects on users’ health, even if they used the ‘soft’ drugs. Some people believe that the trend of addiction by drugs were getting more serious if recreational drugs were legalized, whereas others argued that they should be legalized because it were more beneficial. For example, if they were legalized, legal companies could supply purer and safer drugs, Moreover, more drug users could go and see the doctor. These ideas could contribute to decrease the danger of using drugs and to save their lives. However, people who against the ligalization point out the possibility of containing poisonous materials into drugs, that is like what have happened with foods in recent years, and the pressure and the overload of doctors.

The children of today are surrounded by numerous technology and entertainment. While there are many positive social and educational effects for children from them, there are also serious negative impacts on their physical and mental health. This essay will examin the positive and negative effects of technology and entertainment in our modern society on the children and show which side holds more strength.

Music is a big part of children’s lives, especially as the children become older and enter adolescence. Music is an important filed of the art and listening to the music should be encouraged. However, it also should not be ignored that the use of earphones or headphones may have a bad effect on children’s ears. Furthermore, some scientists say some kind of music may affect on children’s aggressive behaviour behavior.

Television is especially influential on the children of today. It is obvious that television helps children to learn a variety of things from it, giving educationally benefitial beneficial effects. On the other hand, it is also clear that television may be harmful for children, having socialy socially unacceptable contents.

Another form of entertainment that can have a strong influence on a child’s behaviour is video games. Nowadays video games are recognised as one of major free-time activities. Also some study say that some kind of games may have good effects on children. However, there are other kind of games which contains harmful contents like violence, and they seem to have problems to children’s mental conditions. Moreover, the bad effects on health caused by playing video games, such as bad eyes or less movement, are well know.

In conclusion, music, television and video games are all things that are fun and sometimes educational for kids. However, these media can have negative effects on children and may be a bad influence on them, depending on the content. Children are extremely impressionable and if they are exposed to violent television, music or video games then they will start to emulate that show, artist or song, or video game with their behaviour. These are all so powerful that they should be used to teach children how to problem solve and hep them expand their minds, not show them how to kill someone or teach them other violent behaviour behavior.

Overall, the users increased dramatically during last few months in every 3 countries. The country that had the largest users was the US, and the least was Japan.

In the US, Twitter had been becoming a common web service. According to the table, more than 1 of the 10th net users in the US are using Twitter. Compared with it, I should say that it is not so common yet in Japan: the Reach ratio is under 1%. Furthermore, the significant factors about Japanese Twitter users are their average minutes spent and the gender ratio. Usually Japanese users use Twitter less than 5 minutes, whereas that is more than 17 minutes in the US, and 27 minutes in UK. Also, 3 of 4th Japanese Twitter users are male, whereas in the US or UK the gender ratio is almost the half.

I heard recently Twitter is becoming more popular in Japan. I guess the gender ratio in Japan may become close to it in the US or UK in few months.

By now, using the internet by mobile was not so common. As far as I know, many people in NZ have a simple mobile phone, just with calling, txting, and alarm etc. But nowadays, many smartphones like iPhone or BlackBerry or moble phones that have a connectivity to the net have released, giving the demand of data connection.

But the problem is, in NZ, there is no unlimited data usage plan. This means that, of course, the connectivity to the internet have a restriction and it seems to be critical especially for iPhone or BlackBerry.

I should say that the situation of the internet in NZ is out of date: very slow and very restricted. Even 100MB per month must be not enough for power-users, and may be for usual users, it is still meaningful because of its freebie. I hope it become the first step of the unlimited internet connection.

Although Apple Script is designed to understand and use for developers, it is not easy to guess that is even difficult to use for non-developers. Don’t need to be disappointed; Apple is offering alternate solution, which is called Automator.

Automator is able to be considered as like Graphical Apple Script. It is consisted by a lot of operation unit blocks, like “Select a file” or “Copy a file” etc. Users can arrenge these unit blocks sequencely by drag & drop. For example, you can create an operation such as “selecting all files in a folder”, “filtering by the name”, and “moving proper files to another folder” by just arrenging these suitable blocks graphically and easily. I think Apple Script and Automator are the two greatest advantages of Mac.

There is another feature on Macintosh. That is called Folder Action. This is the feature that you can run your Apple Scripts or Automator operations whenever you put file(s) into a folder. With these features, you can make an automated operation to upload a photograph to your online album just putting it into a specific folder. This Folder Action seems to make an extra load for Finder, but it is worth using; you can save your operations, or of course your time.

In the truth, this is not the first time Google release the OS. They already had released gOS, an Ubuntu based linux OS. But Google Chrome OS will be completely different from gOS; Chrome OS will be an web OS. Chrome is integrated to the (maybe linux) OS and the functions or applications of the OS itself are minimized, with that users can get the benefit of instant access to the computer and the internet. And for applications like e-mail or PIM, users will use some web services like Gmail or Google Calender. We don’t know much about the new OS because they have not announced the detail, which comes later of this year.

Don’t you be excited? Of course, I’m one of you. But to watch what Google will do, I can’t help feeling that this is a very similar model Microsoft used to approach with their OS and the browser, Windows and Internet Explorer. Nowadays users can uninstall Internet Explorer,but it is truth that it was difficult or even impossible, that led Microsoft to the court. It is apparent that Google is not Microsoft in the OS market, and the Web services are not as they were. But with ignoring them, I’m not sure Google will success with the way once Microsoft had failed.

For writing a essay, it’s a essential factor that how long it is. Usually I should write more than 200 or 300 words per essays. So the function of counting the word is very useful for practicing to write English articles or essays.
